There are multiple positions in volleyball that contribute to every team’s success. These positions include defensive specialist, libero, middle blocker, outside hitter, opposite hitter, and setter. All of these positions are required for a team to win, but one of the most recognized is the setter.

A setter is known as the main contributor to the offense of the team. They are responsible for setting up plays for one of the attacking players to dominate and score. If there were no setters, teams would have a difficult time winning.

Some of the other responsibilities of setters are to run the offense, keep opponents off balance, be a vocal leader, identify blockers, and dig and block on defense.

Top Five Ways to Be A Better Setter

According to an article written by 2008 and 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist Lindsey Berg, these are five of her biggest pieces of advice for those that are trying to improve their setting game.

1. Be a leader.

3. Be the hardest worker on the team.

4. Set from a consistent body position and hand position so you can be deceptive.

5. Know your hitters and what sets they like to hit.
